دبي DUBAI - THE STORY
Dubai - THE unbelievable story of success
Within less than 300 years, Dubai has grown from small pearl fishing village into a modern metropolis with a skyline studded with skyscrapers. The creek was a natural harbour and during the 19th century, it served as Dubai’s commercial engine, establishing itself as a centre for fishing, pearling and maritime trade. Old traditional sailing boats still ply the routes between Dubai, India and beyond.
By the turn of the 20th century, Dubai had established itself as a successful port. The souk on the Deira side of the Creek was the largest on the coast with more than 400 shops, attracting a steady stream of visitors and businessmen. By the 1930s, the city’s population was nearly 25000.
When oil was discovered, Sheikh Rashid turned the petro dollars into building projects, and also used it to kick-start the tourist industry. Then Dubai became part of the U.A.E. In 1972 the project was completed when the final emirate, Ras Al Khaimah, joined the fledgling country.
Welcome in the future
With rows of skyscrapers lining the Sheikh Zayed Road, mega malls and many multi-million pound offshore developments, Dubai may look like a temple to the petrodollar but, as anyone who spends more than a few days here will tell you, there’s far more to the city than that.
Dubai is developing more rapidly than Shanghai. Every sixth crane in the world is operating in the small desert state. Life is a priority here in the futur - Dubai is an overland country.
World capital of 21st century
Gigantomania is not a swearword but a design principle. The Al-Maktoum family, which governs country, has decided to build the world capital of the 21st century.
Dubai is the largest city of the United Arab Emirates, with a population of 2,657 million (november 2016). The political, economic and social life of the country is essentially in Dubai city.
Dubai (دبي) is famous worldwide for its spectacular architecture, such as the Burj al Arab, the most luxurious hotel in the world in a striking sail-shaped building, the Burj Khalifa, the tallest skyscraper in the world, or the man-made "The Palm, Jumeirah" holiday island which even can bee seen from space.
